Clint Eastwood was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, California to Clinton Eastwood Sr. and Margaret Ruth Runner; the family is of Scottish, Irish, Dutch, and English descent. Eastwood is a descendant of Mayflower passenger and Plymouth Colony Governor, William Bradford. As a child, Eastwood endured the Great Depression, which in turn left its mark on his later films.
Eastwood began is political career as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA in 1986. He received 72% of the vote running as a Republican.
Eastwood is a registered Republican, but regularly describes himself as a Libertarian. He has taken liberal views on issues like same sex marriage and supporting Democrats like Former California Governer Gray Davis, but he is generally viewed as having conservative views.
Many view Eastwood’s latest movies Million Dollar Baby and Mystic River show him moving away from his previous tough guy, good must punish evil roles and toward a softer “Democratic” stance when it comes to good vs. evil. This is seen by many conservatives as “Dirty Harry” moving more to the “Left” than “Right”.
